What is a Functional specification?

Positive Negative

A Functional specification (FS) is a document often created by the chose supplier to detail the relatively generic requirements in the URS xref to the functionality / terminology in the chosen system. Very often the FS is more detailed than the URS, and will therefore be used as the “correct answer” document to the testing. If an FS is created, there should be a link between identified requirements the URS and the FS. This link continues into the testing as well. The link is often called a Traceability matrix.
